Gang Gang Dance Members To Participate in NYC Showcase

Lizzi Bougatsos of Gang Gang Dance is participating in an art show tomorrow in New York. Fellow band member Brian DeGraw will contribute a DJ set at the event.

Lizzi Bougatsos of Gang Gang Dance is participating in an art show on Saturday, February 26 at Santos Party House in New York City.

Somebody Arted In Here! will feature “The Bacchanal Basement,” an installation downstairs by Peter Doig, and Bougatsos and Rita Ackermann will provide the installations for Santos’s windows. Doig and Fellow Gang Gang Dancer Brian DeGraw will be DJing the event, along with Thomas Bullock of A.R.E. Weapons.

But this is not the first time we’ve seen Bougatsos and Ackermann collaborate on a project. The two artists have worked together on several curatorial projects, and have a music project together called Angelblood.

In an interview with VBS.tv in 2008, Bougatsos refers to herself as “an archivist and a collector of images.” She’s had several exhibitions at New York’s James Fuentes Gallery, where she mainly creates non-traditional self-portraits from found materials. Check out some of her work above.

DeGraw has shown artwork at the James Fuentes Gallery as well. It’s nice to see such versatile Creators participating in different innovative experiments.

Santos opens its doors at 11 PM on Saturday at 96 Lafayette Street. Arrive early–the first 300 guests will get free limited edition mix CDs from Peter Doig!
