A True Blue Gaming Guitar

The Gizzards frontman shows us his circuit bending ways.

Since the 1980s, people all over the world have enjoyed playing games on the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), even though it sometimes required blowing the dust out of the cartridges every five minutes. But while the old school console has become almost obsolete in the modern age of eye-popping 3D and shoot ’em up carnage, its aesthetics still live on in countless art projects, retro style games and merchandise, and chiptunes music.

Now, Nintendo’s iconic little grey box has been adapted as an electric guitar. The one-man, circuit bending band The Gizzards created an NES-powered electric guitar (with development help from GetLoFi) in 2010. Despite the intricate circuitry modified in this device, it will doubtfully cause a revolutionary trend in music, as the NES guitar doesn't actually hold a note very well. Either way, we’re hoping the creator of the NES guitar has plans to release many albums using a symphony of gaming consoles as musical instruments. And we’re also hoping the two hosts in the above video put an end to their painfully awkward dancing.
