VICE Sports World News Roundup: September 3

Start your day with VICE Sports. Here's our morning roundup of the sports news from around the world.

Good morning, America. Welcome to the VICE Sports World News Roundup. Be sure to stop by daily for your morning headlines.

It's the 3rd of September, 2015, and Sepp Blatter is still president of FIFA.

Marco Reus—a player who is the Bundesliga's and Germany's best, when not injured—is injured again. He will miss Germany's Euro qualifiers against Poland and Scotland, just like he missed the World Cup. Germany is not off to a hot start in qualifying. They currently sit second in Group D, one point behind Poland and just two above Scotland.

Group A is the one to watch. Iceland, the best pound for pound soccer team in the world, is in first place, with 15 points, two above the Czech Republic and five above the Netherlands. If Iceland can continue apace, it will qualify for its first ever major tournament. The team plays in the Netherlands tonight.

American Mardy Fish lost to Feliciano López of Spain 2-6, 6-3, 1-6, 7-5, 6-3 at the U.S. Open. Fish retired after the match, meaning John Isner now has the best resume of any active American male.

It's a different story on the Women's side. Serena Williams, the greatest female player of all time, beat the Netherlands' Kiki Bertens in the second round, 7-6 (7-5) 6-3.

Tour de France winner Chris Froome crashed in the Vuelta de España, hurting his foot and ending his bid for another major title this year.

After his transfer to Real Madrid fell though, David De Gea will reportedly sign a new contract with United rather than leave next year on a free. This is huge news for United, a team that didn't really want to sell De Gea to begin with. And even if he leaves next summer, at least it won't be for free. United 1, Real Madrid 0.
