I’m obsessed with where we’re headed with Augmented Reality. There is simply no doubt in my mind, for better or for worse, that this technology is going to flood the ether with its “the future we were promised” brand of coolness. A future with holographic salesmen and 3D porn; a future with floating advertisements for 32oz fountain sodas and other such junk food. It’s gonna kick ass. Now, Hololabs, a video-game production and interactive media development company in Montreal has developed a DIY AR application for iPhone, which allows users to create their own floaty, future-y AR models and share them in the internet multiverse.Heretofore, augmented reality has led a mostly static existence as a concept with real potential. In other words, It is a thing, but it hasn’t really gathered steam en masse. There are, of course, the palpable smattering of iPhone apps that exist with an AR thing going on, but now that we’ve got applications being made so that people can make their own AR models, It’s only a matter of time before we’ll see, full on, news anchors reporting about traffic jams on the George Washington Bridge because an Augmented Reality T-Rex gave an old lady a heart attack while driving type shit.
FYI.
