There's no time to waste when it comes to climate change and action is needed now. That's why VICE Impact is getting local and has proudly partnered with The Sierra Club in their "Mayors for 100% Clean Energy" push, part of the "Ready for 100" campaign.
We're calling all mayors to lead the U.S. towards a healthier, stronger future by endorsing a goal of 100 percent clean, renewable energy. Cities and towns are on the frontlines of addressing climate concerns, and, with local leaders, it is possible for one person to affect big change. U.S. Mayors we're looking at you.
Since 2016, more than 25 American cities have committed to shift from relying on fossil fuels to 100 percent renewable energy. These mayors come from small towns and big cities, coast to coast, and north to south and all understand that clean energy means better a quality of life for their communities. Renewables, like solar and wind, are linked to better quality of life and jobs that are both environmentally sustainable and good for the economy. In comparison, the downstream effects of dirty fuels, like coal and gas, create toxic spaces that put the health of communities in jeopardy. Traditional fossil fuels pollute the air and are largely responsible for the uptick in global temperature. The federal government is unlikely to make the needed changes towards phasing out dirty energy, and it's unclear where national infrastructure spending is going. So it's up to local leaders to take charge and individuals across the country to take action. No matter what side of the aisle you may be on, a healthy environment and an economically thriving community is something we can all agree on.
Ask your town's mayor to support a 100 percent clean, renewable energy future and add their name to the "Mayors For 100% Clean Energy" endorsement letter!
Take action on climate change now and in your community.
