Full moons bring climaxes to whatever’s been brewing, and when there’s a full moon in fire sign Leo, you can bet life will be a little more theatrical than usual! This month’s full moon takes place on February 5, 2023: Grand gestures can be offered, but big egos may lead to separations. Approaching life with integrity and avoiding self-centered behavior is key to working with this full moon successfully.

According to the Farmer’s Almanac, Native American tribes called February’s full moon the Full Snow Moon because it coincides with the heaviest snowfall of the year. Since the inclement weather made gathering food difficult, this full moon is also sometimes referred to as the Bony Moon, Hunger Moon, or Little Famine Moon.

What does the full moon in Leo represent?

The full moon in Leo can only take place when the sun is in Aquarius. Aquarius is famously described by astrologers as cool, aloof, and detached… all the things Leo is not! Leo is hot! Involved! Happy to be center stage, eager to lead, living life passionately!

Aquarius season could find us feeling a bit non-committal as we experiment with different ideas, but the full moon in Leo reminds us what we are truly passionate about! The full moon in Leo asks us not to act blasé about our passions. Aquarius can be too cool for school, but the full moon in Leo says no more indifference! Aquarius season pulls us to approach things in a chill way, but full moons bring big feelings to the surface, and the full moon in Leo does not shy away from drama.

Full moons may also find us confronting problems, and during this one, big egos that mess up the community flow are challenged. Full moons can also be very much about compromise: The full moon in Leo might find us balancing the desire for attention with the ability to shine the spotlight on others.

What’s special about this year’s full moon in Leo?

Full moons take place when the sun and moon are opposite each other, and 2023’s full moon in Leo creates what astrologers call a T-sqaure between the opposing sun and moon and Uranus, which is currently in Taurus. T-squares take place when three or more planets create three-fourths of a cross in a chart. It’s a geometrical formation that looks like a T where three or more planets are at a 90 degree angle (or square) from each other. T-squares create tension. The sun and moon’s opposition demands collaboration and compromise even in the midst of confrontation. There can be a “letting go” taking place, or a project or wish could be fulfilled; the opposition creates a feeling of release. Since this full moon also squares Uranus, an unexpected decision can arise, and the surprising option may be chosen!

Mars also lends itself to this full moon, as the moon separates from a sextile to Mars, and the sun separates from a trine. Sextiles and trines are helpful alignments that bode well for boosts of confidence and fortitude. Things might move along quickly at this time. The sun and moon are also loosely square the north and south nodes, creating a grand cross. A grand cross takes place when the fourth angle of a T-square is filled out! We might feel like we’re watching the wheel of fortune spin, and while we’re not sure where it’s going to land, there’s a sense of awe as we consider all the possibilities that could unfold.
