VICE Sports World News Roundup: September 9

Start your day with VICE Sports. Here's our morning roundup of the sports news from around the world.

Good morning, America. Welcome to the VICE Sports World News Roundup. Be sure to stop by daily for your morning headlines.

It's the 9th of September, 2015, and Sepp Blatter is still president of FIFA.

England beat Switzerland 2-0 in last night's Euro qualifiers. The match is notable because Wayne Rooney scored his 50th goal for England, surpassing Sir Bobby Charlton's 49, a record that stood for 45 years.

Gareth Bale's agent Jonathan Barnett made some sad sounding (read whining) noise about how Bale could have made a lot more money had he played for England instead of Wales. It's almost certainly true, but I guess when you're Welsh you're Welsh. Cool that players aren't as cynical as agents… yet.

The U.S. Men's National Team was trounced by Brazil in a friendly last night. In the 91st minute, Danny Williams scored a ridiculous 30 yard strike, but it was already 4-0 by then. ESPN is already wondering if it's the U.S.'s worst performance under Klinsmann. One thing's for sure, the loss came at a terrible time. Next month, U.S. plays Mexico in a one-game playoff to decide who qualifies for the Confederations Cup.

Mexico, meanwhile, played Argentina to a 2-2 tie. Mexico almost won, but then Messi happened. (Bonus Chicharito interview in English if you click the link.)

Eva Carneiro, the Chelsea doctor demoted because Jose Mourinho doesn't know the rules, is thinking about suing.

Wally Masur, Australia's Davis Cup captain, says he'll leave Nick Kyrgios off the team for the upcoming semi-final. Masur says Kyrgios needs to improve personally and professionally. (Link in Spanish)

St. Pauli and Dortmund played a charity match for Germany's refugees, around 1,000 of whom were in attendance in Hamburg. St. Pauli fans held a banner that read, in English, "Say it loud, Say it clear, Refugees are welcome here." (Link in German)

Serena Williams beat her sister Venus (shocking!) to book a place in the U.S. Open semifinals.

Another wrestling picture, because the EPA's Paul Buck is on a bit of a hot streak and because, I mean, Azerbaijan's Rasul Chunayev has turned Ukrain's Armen Vardanyan all the way upside down.
