Legendary music video director Chris Cunningham, has brought us unforgettable videos for the likes of Bjork, Aphex Twin, and Madonna. Now, apparently, he’s working on his first “audiovisual album.” At a recent Museum of Modern Art PopRally event this past Monday, Cunningham screened an audiovisual remix of Gil Scott-Heron’s New York Is Killing Me. Like much of Cunningham’s work, the video is dark and unsettling, with an otherworldly creepiness that makes you wonder why this guy never directed vampire flicks (he’d make a killing!). During a discussion with Barbara London, MoMA’s Associate Curator of Media and Performance Art, Cunningham announced that he was presently working on his first audiovisual album, most likely a collection of music videos set to an original score. We wish we had more details on the project, but for now, suffice it to say that it’s probably going to be good and it will most likely send shivers down your spine.
