Tim Tebow (Allegedly) Gets First Fall League Hit

I would love nothing more than to tell you that New York Mets publicity sensation Tim Tebow got a hit today but, despite the massive media interest in this man and the embedded tweet above, the only hit we have documentary proof of involved the outfield wall, and the outfielder's face.

There was a big to-do last month when reports spread like wildfire that Tim Tebow hit a home run in his first professional at-bat. Video after video of this event surfaced, showing a man in a Mets-like uniform hitting a baseball. And then little else. Wherever the ball went, the camera went in the opposite direction. And so it is again with this entry in the "first hit" mythology.

In grainy video, we see a man who could charitably be described as wearing a Mets-like uniform hitting the ball to left field-ish. There is an absurdly loud, bordering on unbelievable, crack of the bat, and then the camera follows the runner and then the video stops. Here are things we don't see:

• Where the ball lands.
• Whether it actually did land, or if it was caught.
• A call on the field clarifying this point.
• Whether "Tim Tebow" went back to the dugout or stayed on the base.
• The device used to add in the clearly over-the-top sound of bat meeting ball.

It really does not seem like it should be hard to get decent video of Tim Tebow doing a good baseball thing. But for some reason, so far it is.
