Eury Perez Thinks He Makes Diving Catch, Ball Rolling into Foul Territory Says Otherwise

Eury Perez made a great effort at a diving catch, and thought he pulled it off. He did not and the ball rolled all the way to the wall as he held up his empty glove.

In the fifth inning against the Giants last night, left fielder Eury Perez made a very nice diving grab to retire Brandon Crawford. The next batter, Ehire Adrianza hit a similar ball to left and Perez made a similar play. The only difference between the two plays is that Perez caught the first one, and did not catch the second one. It took Perez a good while to realize he did not make the catch, as he held up his empty glove to umpires, but he eventually realized the ball was actually rolling into foul territory.

Adrianza wound up on second, but Jake Peavy was the next batter and he was easily retired for the third out. No harm, no foul, which meant Perez's teammates could razz the shit out of him in the dugout between innings.

That's Pedro Ciriaco yucking it up the most, but manager Fredi Gonzalez seems to be enjoying himself, too. The laughter was fleeting, however, as the Giants scored six runs in the final two innings to beat the Braves 8-3.
