Breadwoman is back. After over 35 years from her first introduction to LA audiences, the shamanist figure is set to make her NYC debut.

Back in February, RVNG Intl released Breadwoman & Other Tales, an audio document of music by the stage character created by Los Angeles performance artist Anna Homler. Along with the sound designer Steve Moshier, Homler brought to life the legend of Breadwoman, a figure covered entirely in baked bread, singing to audiences in a made-up language as sequenced percussion marched around her. Though Homler retired Breadwoman in the 1980s, the character has recently risen again to great acclaim.

According to Pitchfork who will host the show, Homler will introduce Breadwoman to New York audiences on Saturday, June 11 at Saint Vitus at the online magazine's showcase for the annual Brooklyn music festival Northside. Joining her in performance will be sound artist Steven Warwick, along with a line-up that will include Lotic and Rabit. Get your tickets here.

If you are familiar with the legend of Breadwoman, THUMP posted a short documentary on Homler shot by the directors Hazel Hill McCarthy III and Douglas J McCarthy, who we interviewed for the occasion. Listen to "Ee Chê" from the album below.
