User Profiled Episode 1: How Our Online Information Can Be Used Against Us

Every time we go online, our personal data is tracked and stored. VICE talks to cybersecurity experts to find out who wants our data and how it is used to exploit us.

Everything we do online is being tracked. Our social media accounts track our likes and dislikes. Our browsers track our online purchases. Our smart devices track our location and daily routines. We generate more than 2.5 billion gigabytes of data every day. But what happens to it all?

VICE speaks with a former CSIS intelligence officer to find out how this data can be used to profile and exploit us. We visit a tech startup to find out how social media data can be used to screen tenants. We go to an advanced computer lab to see how data is analyzed to help police make decisions about criminals.
