ITALY - RIOT

Last week the Italian editor Tim was sitting on a bench, eating a slice of pizza, observing a group called Fiamma Tricolore, an ultra-right wing party of neo-fascists, who had organised a rally in a low-income district of Milan. News came that some anti-globalization squatter banditos had heard about this and weren't happy. We were waiting for the opportunity to take some pictures of people beating the shit out of each other. Unfortunately the anarchist-communists-whatevers were stopped by a wall of policemen before they could meet the now Roman-saluting, singing fascists. So they decided to turn their anger to the streets, burning a few cars and a few mopeds, throwing paper bombs through a few windows, set fire to a shop, some garbage cans, the usual. Then some furious locals managed to get hold of a few anarchists and were about to lynch them before the police intervened to try and save the lives of the same squatters who had just sent 10 cops to the hospital. Final tally: 53 protesters arrested (with more to come once the CCTV footage is analysed), 42 protesters and 10 cops injured. The fascists finished their rally in peace, we got some pictures, finished our pizza and left.
