Alia Shawkat Buries a Body in the Season Two Trailer for 'Search Party'

Michael Showalter's mystery-comedy series about a gang of hip amateur detectives returns to TBS November 19.

Michael Showalter's mystery series Search Party dropped on TBS without much fanfare back in 2016, but quickly became a surprise hit thanks to Alia Shawkat's brilliant performance and the Nancy Drew-meets-The Bedford Stop plotline.

TBS renewed the show back in December, but news about another season has been pretty scarce until now. The new episodes got a November release date earlier this month and, on Thursday, TBS finally graced us with a trailer for Search Party season two.

The new trailer follows the former amateur detective Dory (Shawkat) and her Brooklynite friends—played by John Reynolds, Meredith Hagner, and John Early—as they scramble to cover up what was, essentially, a cold-blooded murder. The crew of ludicrously hip 20-somethings have no idea how to bury a body, evade a cop, or lay low—and, as they force themselves to keep up old habits (namely, eating brunch), trying to live a normal life becomes increasingly difficult.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Shawkat said that with the fresh blood Dory and her friends have on their hands, season two feels less like a whodunit mystery and more like something out of a Hitchcock movie.

"They're hiding any evidence as best they can, and each step of the way realizing they fucked up," Shawkat told EW. "They're like, 'Wait, what about fingerprints?' 'Wait, what about this, what about that?' It's almost the YouTube version of 'How do you bury a body?'"
