A Cyborg Assassin Hunts Humans in This Chilling Dystopian Short

Comic book artist and filmmaker Roberto de la Torre wields impressive VFX in his short film 'Bernie.'

A levitating robot assassin hunts down escaped inmates in a new Neill Blomkamp-esque short film by comic book artist and filmmaker Roberto de la Torre. Bernie opens with a series of brief, panoramic shots of a barren and desolate landscape that's been ravaged by war and nuclear fallout. The robotic killing machine at the center of this short video is traversing the locale's rocky terrain when it spots what appears to be a fleeing prisoner trying to break free from his arm shackles. The robot fires a shot at the prisoner, misses, and goes chasing after him in frustration. The next scene shows the robot dragging the inmate's lifeless body towards a futuristic industrial power plant. The film closes on another disheveled inmate as he stumbles across the post-apocalyptic desert.

Bernie was shot last year in the hills of Martinique, a French island located in the eastern Caribbean. De la Torre put together the animation and video effects using a combination of Cinema 4D, Photoshop, After Effects, and Substance Painter. Watch the video in its entirety below:
