Let's state a fact: Alex Giannascoli is one of this generation's best artists. In a world where DIY releases might fall to the wayside and "acoustic" "singer" "songwriters" can often be ignored, his music shines like a beacon over a fogged sea. Take "Bobby" for example, a track from the latest (Sandy) Alex G record. It's an eternal, timeless piece of music. If ever you felt compelled to try and name a Bob Dylan or Conor Oberst of this generation then Alex Giannascoli would be on the list. No hyperbole. Facts.

However as much as a song like "Bobby" slots neatly alongside the work of those aforementioned songwriters, he's also very much a product of this generation. His releases can sprawl all over the place and across genre. He plays guitar in Frank Ocean's band. He initially gained recognition through Bandcamp. Three big ticks for being the figurehead of whatever-the-fuck this generation of music-listeners can be called. And now there's this, a track called "fay", uploaded to his personal YouTube account on Thursday night, as millennial songwriters are wont to do.

It's not entirely clear where the song has come from – if it's an outtake from his last record, a throwaway, a forgotten gem that's since been dug up or a hint at something new to come. One thing however is certain, and that is that the YouTube description needs to be ran through a Google translate. Alex G >> English please. Peep that here, listen to the song above, take a minute to think about things.
