Alex Eveson is a pivotal part of the UK drum and bass scene. As well as making a name for himself as a producer on labels such as Creative Source, V Recordings, Horizons, 31 Records & Ingredients, Eveson is also an artist and graphic designer. Greatness takes many forms, and Eveson has decided to adopt a new moniker to explore a unique tempo: as Dead Man's Chest he produces rollers at 157 BPM. Why that specific? Eveson explains:"I started DJing under the Dead Man's Chest alias a little while back when I'd play sets ranging from 120 to 170 BPM, mixing through techno, old school hardcore, jungle and drum and bass, upping the tempo as I went. The tempo gap between hardcore and jungle was always a little tricky to fill seamlessly, so when I started writing beats in that style, I figured 157 BPM would be a useful tempo to bridge the upper end of hardcore (150 BPM) to the 160-170 range of jungle. At one point I thought I might be alienating myself from the drum and bass scene, so I tried shifting up to the mid 160s but the tunes lost their groove so I reverted back to 157 and they just sound kinda dope at that speed."THUMP are delighted to present you with the spectrally creeping "All About U" from Eveson's upcoming limited edition EP on Ingredients.
