Rams Punter John Hekker Boldly Pushes Cliff Avril, Now Lives in Fear

If you're a kicker, just don't mess with a defensive end.

Oh man, this is priceless. Kickers aren't known for, well, playing much football. And so when an opportunity comes along to give an opposing player a solid push to the ground, why not take it? Life is short—and so is the amount of time you play on the field. No regrets.

Except when someone makes you regret, deeply. In this case, that someone is fear-inducing Seahawks defensive end Cliff Avril.

After giving Seahawks defensive end Cliff Avril a solid (blindside) push to the ground, Rams kicker John Hekker—who weighs 24 pounds less than Avril—was likely feeling pretty proud of himself. That is, until Avril and his fellow defensive end Michael Bennett came in to scare the living shit out of Hekker.

When Hekker went for a kick, both Bennett and Avril came in to threaten a tackle while Hekker looked up admiringly at his own kick. As soon as Avril came into his periphery, Hekker flinched. HARD. And then Bennett came in to finish the job, causing Hekker to fall to the ground in cowardice.

Hekker has made for a perfect theater of our football dreams and nightmares. And for that, we shall forever be in debt.

UPDATE:

Hekker apparently apologized to Avril after the game. Yeah, he did.

Cliff Avril says Johnny Hekker apologized after game for late hit.
