Waiver Wire Workout, Week 10

Can the Chargers find receivers to fill out the roster? Who will fill in for Dion Lewis?

Because league formats vary, one size doesn't fit all when it comes to your waiver wire. That's why I break possible free agent adds into three categories. Follow me on Twitter for the latest on possible additions to your fantasy roster.

Addable In All Leagues

Karlos Williams, RB, BUF (36% owned in Yahoo leagues). LeSean McCoy left the fourth quarter of Sunday's win over Miami with a shoulder injury, and the Bills play Thursday night against the Jets. That alone makes Williams—who recently returned from a multi-week concussion—worth adding. But Williams has also proven he's got some big-play chops to go along with his 230-pound frame. Even if Shady winds up being able to play Thursday, Karlos The Jackal isn't a terrible desperation start.

James Starks, RB, GB (39% owned). Whither Eddie Lacy? Good heavens, the third-year erstwhile stud Packers running back is causing fantasy owners angst after yet another lackluster performance against the Panthers: five carries for 10 yards. The culprit this time around was a lost fumble with five minutes left in the first half. Afterward, Starks got the majority of the work. While he's not a particularly special player, Starks did benefit from a bunch of Aaron Rodgers dump-off passes in the second half, and didn't fumble. Will Starks steal the starting job from Lacy? I still tend to think not, but I'm stubborn like that. It's worth grabbing Starks just in case I'm wrong.

James White and Brandon Bolden, RBs, NE (1% and 2% owned, respectively). Dion Lewis is out for the season with a torn ACL, and the Patriots need to replace him in the spread version of their offense. The problem: we won't know their plans until we watch them play Week 10 against the Giants. I can't definitively tell you who to add. My initial guess is White; I assume that he was inactive for Sunday's contest because he doesn't play special teams, and Bolden does. When Lewis missed Week 7 against the Jets, White got first crack at his job, though he didn't exactly shine. We also have to consider the possibility that the Pats sign someone else off the street.

Dorial Green-Beckham is a big man, and could have a big impact on your fantasy team. Photo by Christopher Hanewinckel-USA TODAY Sports

Dorial Green-Beckham, WR, TEN (13% owned). It's a long way from DGB's Week 9 performance to fantasy stardom, but it's a start. Green-Beckham failed to exceed 20 snaps played in any of his first four games, but he's been on the rise since. With Kendall Wright missing Sunday, DGB played a career-high 47 snaps and played a major role in the Titans' fourth-quarter and overtime drives. You can see what scouts liked about the guy: He's monstrously big and can blot out defensive backs just by running a slant. While he's no burner, he moves quite well for a 6'5" 237-pound man/behemoth. How many good performances would it take for us to trust DGB as a fantasy starter? I'm guessing at least a couple more. But if Marcus Mariota is ready to take a step forward, Green-Beckham could be a key factor.

Steelers Defense (42% owned). They're not the Steel Curtain anymore, but they're respectable, and they face a Browns offense that will either be led by mistake-prone Josh McCown or mistake-prone Johnny Manziel. I'd be okay with that. If you need a deep-league streamer, take a look at the Buccaneers Defense (4% owned); I certainly don't think they're good, but they'll be facing Matt Cassel.

Players listed in previous weeks who are still addable in all leagues: Alfred Blue, RB, HOU (49%); Matt Jones, RB, WAS (33%); Theo Riddick, RB, DET (17%); Kamar Aiken, WR, BAL (40%); Nate Washington, WR, HOU (26%).

Speculative Adds

Taiwan Jones, Marcel Reece and Roy Helu, RBs, OAK (3%, 2% and 2% owned, respectively). Latavius Murray left Oakland's close loss in Pittsburgh in the third quarter with a concussion. Considering he missed multiple games with a concussion in 2014, he could at least sit out Week 10 against the Vikings. Unfortunately, there isn't a clear backup on the Raiders roster. Reece got the most tailback snaps in the limited sample size after Murray's injury, but it was actually Jamize Olawale (0% owned) who converted a red-zone carry into a rushing TD. Helu was inactive Sunday, but could be part of the solution if Murray is inactive, while Jones has six touches the past two weeks and has a cool first name.

Dontrelle Inman, WR, SD (7% owned). Malcom Floyd appeared to suffer a bad shoulder injury Monday night, leaving the Chargers with three healthy wideouts. Stevie Johnson is a clear No. 1 on the depth chart for now, while Inman will have to step up to No. 2. He's an interesting prospect: a guy without elite deep speed but with interesting open-field quickness for someone who is 6'3" 205 pounds. Inman did lose a fumble Monday night, but his team just doesn't have enough depth to punish him for it.

Jordan Todman, RB, PIT (0% owned). DeAngelo Williams reportedly came down with a sore foot after his massive Week 9 output, and will sit out Wednesday's practice. Veterans like D-Willy miss Wednesday practices all the time, so don't push the panic button on him just yet. But this gives us a chance to note that Todman is likely next in line in the Steelers backfield. A pretty decent athlete with nice long speed but without super change-of-direction skills, Todman might actually project just about like latter-day Williams does. As such, it's probably worth handcuffing D-Willy with Todman.

Cole Beasley is so small even a referee could tackle him. Photo by Tim Heitman-USA TODAY Sports

Cole Beasley, WR, DAL (4% owned). I'm really not buying that Beasley is ready to be an every-week fantasy factor. We've been here before: coming out of Week 4 against the Saints when Beasley had six catches on six targets, we were sold that perhaps he could help babysit the Cowboys' awful backup QBs via shorter throws. But Beasley caught four total passes in his next three games. Still, Matt Cassel did send 10 targets Beasley's way Sunday night and the diminutive slot man caught nine of them and scored two TDs. We're in Speculation Alley here, so heck, maybe Beasley does it again Week 10 in Tampa.

Shaun Draughn, RB, SF (2% owned). The 49ers are off this week and there's a chance Carlos Hyde will be able to return from his foot injury against the Seahawks in Week 11. In case that doesn't happen, Draughn might be an add for a fantasy owner who's desperate for RB help. He played 42 snaps Sunday compared to 16 for Kendall Gaskins and four for Pierre Thomas. Draughn is a journeyman's journeyman, but he made enough plays in the passing game that I can imagine a role for him even if Hyde gets healthy.

Players listed in previous weeks who are still speculative adds: Jay Cutler, QB, CHI (44%); Charles Sims, RB, TB (32%); Joique Bell, RB, DET (24%); David Cobb, RB, TEN (17%); Christine Michael, RB, DAL (20%); Thomas Rawls, RB, SEA (10%); Buck Allen, RB, BAL (5%); Ahmad Bradshaw, RB, IND (5% owned); Chris Polk, RB, HOU (6%); Ted Ginn, WR, CAR (39%); Marquess Wilson, WR, CHI (13%); Marvin Jones, WR, CIN (48%); Rueben Randle, WR, NYG (39%); Devin Funchess, WR, CAR (14%); Cecil Shorts, WR, HOU (5%); Chris Givens, WR, BAL (1%); Eric Ebron, TE, DET (24%); Austin Seferian-Jenkins, TE, TB (34%); Crockett Gillmore, TE, BAL (8%).

Deep-League Adds

With only three healthy receivers, the Chargers will need warm bodies. Javontee Herndon is one of those. Photo by Joe Camporeale-USA TODAY Sports

Javontee Herndon, WR, SD (0% owned). Herndon spent 2014 on the Chargers' practice squad and played his first regular-season contest Monday night after Malcom Floyd injured his shoulder. One assumes the team will be on the market for more healthy receivers. Herndon isn't an elite athlete, but he's a warm body who is already familiar with the playbook.

Travaris Cadet, RB, 49ers (0% owned). If you really want to speculate in a deep league, maybe you try adding Cadet with the hopes that he could assume the Reggie Bush role in San Franisco's offense. Of course, it's worth asking if being the ancillary back behind the likes of Carlos Hyde, Shaun Draughn and/or Kendall Gaskins is worth very much. But Cadet made his bones as a receiver in New Orleans and could become a desperation PPR add after the Niners' Week 10 bye.

Players listed in previous weeks who are still addable in deep leagues: Chris Thompson, RB, WAS (10%); Jonathan Grimes, RB, HOU (0%); Kendall Gaskins, RB, SF (11%); Orleans Darkwa, RB, NYG (12%); Jamison Crowder, WR, WAS (7%); Dwayne Harris, WR, NYG (24%); Justin Hardy, WR, ATL (0%); Jeremy Ross, WR, BAL (0%).
