Banner Over U Miami Game Reads, "C'Mon, #FireAlGolden These Banners Are Expensive"

$395 an hour might break the bank while waiting for Golden to get the axe.

When Fidel Castro was in the Sierra Madres, he didn't write Fulgencio Batista saying, "Hey, c'mon man, would you just stop, like, dictating and stuff? This war is so expensive." No. A grass roots movement has to be willing to sacrifice. It has to be willing to bleed out. You gotta vivir that revolución.

Wussing out along those lines, a private investor sponsored a banner, calling for the sacking of University of Miami's head football coach Al Golden (who led his team to go 6-7 last year), saying "C'mon, #FireAlGolden These Banners are Expensive." Alright, fine. That's actually pretty clever.

Aerial Banners, the company hired to fly the Al Golden banner, says they charge $395 per hour to fly it, for up to 50 letters. So while the "These Banners Are Expensive" part of the banner didn't cost extra, Aerial Banners says the banners can take a couple of hours to prepare. More letters just mean more of a pain in the ass to the people that work there.

A company representative also confirmed what the Miami New Times reported—that alumni groups are often in charge of these things, and have started GoFundMe projects to pool the money for it. Danny Vasquez, an alumni in charge of a banner flown a year ago, might also be behind today's banner, but Aerial Banners are not allowed to disclose the names of their clients. A banner flown earlier this year was a little more biting than the one today. With this many banners, maybe these alumni should just start a GoFundMe for their own plane. Al Golden doesn't seem to be going anywhere yet.
