Creators Remix Roundup Week 44

DJ Mehdi, Birdy Nam Nam, and Kele.

Our Creators are a talented and prolific bunch, and our inbox is always overflowing with alerts of new remixes and mashups from the incredible DJs and producers in our line-up. We just couldn't keep these fresh new tunes to ourselves because, after all, filesharing is caring. Here are our top picks from the past week.

Mickey Factz: “Crusin” (prod. DJ Mehdi)

Earlier this week, we were shocked and saddened by the news that French producer DJ Mehdi tragically passed away. The electro-heavy DJ known for, among other things, his collaborations with Daft Punk and Chromeo, started DJing when he was 15 years old, mostly in the realm of hip-hop. NY-based rapper Mickey Factz just released a track he had been working on with Mehdi before his accident, which was originally recorded for the Need For Speed: Nitro soundtrack. Listen over at Hypetrak.

Birdy Nam Nam: “Goin’ In” (French Fries remix)

The video for Birdy Nam Nam’s new single “Goin In” is really awesome, though the original track is particularly dark (in contrast to the colorful animation). We really like how Parisian DJ French Fries extended and chilled out the track, giving it a drum-heavy instrumental treatment… the style of his rework actually reminds us a bit of Jamie xx. Let us know if you agree…

Kele: “Everything You Wanted” (RAC remix)

If you liked Kele‘s debut solo album The Boxer, then you’ll be happy to hear that the Bloc Party frontman is getting ready to release a follow up EP The Hunter on October 30th. As far as we know, no tracks have leaked, but we did stumble upon a remix of “Everything You Wanted” by André Allen Anjos aka RAC. The remix gives the heart-felt ballad more of a party vibe, elevating the song to a dance floor mainstay with a healthy injection of synth.
