3-D Star Wars is Coming Soon to a Theater Near You

Hardly wait, we can’t. Yes, hmmm.

Apparently, George Lucas has been holding on to new 3-D versions of Star Wars for some time now, but was waiting until there were enough 3-D capable projectors and screens available to get all of his fans in to see it. There are only 2,000-2,500 3D locations in the US, but 500 3-D screens are being added each month in movie theaters around the country, reason enough to rationalize the wait for one more year so that more fans can partake when the first film is released.

The whole saga is set to be converted and released in 2012 in chronological order, beginning with Episode 1, The Phantom Menace. Lucas’ plan is then to release one new SW movie each year after that, depending on how well the first one does. Now, we’re not Yoda or anything, but we think we can predict a pretty enthusiastic reaction.

We were a little shocked by the announcement to screen the recent prequels first. What do you think?

Also, because it’s Friday, here’s some select scenes from the new UGC Star Wars:
