Creators Remix Roundup: Jamie xx, Neon Indian, Chilly Gonzales, Spank Rock And Nick Zinner

Drake gives Gil Scott-Heron and Jamie xx a run for their money, “Polish Girl” reinvented as a dubstep track, Chilly Gonzales’ “You Can Dance” gets dancier, Spank Rock even more amplified and Nick Zinner does Grinderman...

Our Creators are a talented and prolific bunch, and our inbox is always overflowing with alerts of new remixes and mashups from the incredible DJs and producers in our line-up. We just couldn't keep these fresh new tunes to ourselves because, after all, filesharing is caring. Here are our top picks from the past week.

Drake vs. Gil Scott-Heron and Jamie xx: “Wait What — I’ll Take Care of You”

“I’ll Take Care Of You” was one of the big hits off Jamie xx and Gil Scott-Heron‘s 2011 remix album We’re New Here. Sultry R&B singer Drake lays on his own lyrics over the spoken word-electronic mashup to quite a satisfying effect. Florence Welch of Florence + the Machine takes the remix of a remix of a remix chain one step further, giving her own live spin here.

Neon Indian: “Polish Girl” (PatrickReza remix)

We loved how the melodic, electro beats made Neon Indian’s “Polish Girl” so catchy (we even produced the music video, which you can watch and read more about here). We were surprised that LA remix producer PatrickReza could totally made this track his own by stripping the vocals, adding waves of wompy bass and glitching up those much-loved sparkly tones.

Chilly Gonzales: “You Can Dance” (Robotaki remix)

The funky, half-auto-tuned, half-sung classic piano dance track “You Can Dance” by Chilly Gonzales was already pretty feel-good, but Canadian musician Robotaki has taken the good vibes to the next level. Known to remix K-pop artists like Creator G-Dragon, for example, Robotaki glams up the clean track with a thick electro buildup and stall effects, turning this into a song you’d want to hear at a club, not at your younger sibling’s school talent show.

Spank Rock: “Bump” (Joe C remix)

You can always count on Spank Rock to bring the high energy. His 2006 single “Bump” off of his debut album YoYoYoYoYo, featured the relentless lady spitter Amanda Blank. While the original sounds more influenced by the base notes of Tone-Loc’s version of “Wild Thing,” Joe C (aka average Joe) accentuates the track’s mood by speeding up the pacing, adding dark noise, random samples and ambient effects. Definitely not your average rework.

Grinderman: “Bellringer Blues” (Nick Zinner remix)

Though the Nick Cave-led Grinderman may be no more, the band is about to release Grinderman 2 RMX, a remixed reinterpretation of Ginderman 2 this March. Only one track has leaked so far—the Nick Zinner reworked “Bellringer Blues.” Zinner gives the already well-composed track that much more coherence with his precise orchestration and expert guitar handling.
