Dim the lights or turn them off completely (might be hard if you’re in the office) and prepare for a generative journey into the dreamscape called Ana Somnia. In this interactive, light-sensitive website you can enter a little girl’s dream world, which takes the form of strange, Tim Burton-esque figures that extend and expand, growing organically like streams of images and narratives formed in your consciousness while you sleep. This meeting of code, form, and light is by German design company Rostlaub with drawings by artist Kim Köster. Rostlaub describe it thus:A whole world waits for you when you turn out the lights. Our imagination works wonders when no one is watching. In our dreams lie childish figures, random shapes and half remembered memories. Ana Somnia is a generative art project that emulates how we dream, combining animation, soundscapes and code. Illustrations merge in manifold permutations, seemingly the same, yet different each time. Switch off your lights to enter Ana's dreamworld. You can glimpse this surreal world in the video clip below, but be sure to visit the website to experience a dream of your own (since it’s a generative work, the dreams are different each time).
