The extraordinary power of blending is exhibited in a dimension video of a painting featuring a beach-going pinup girl, painted on a beach-going pinup girl. Artist Alexa Meade considers using the human body as a canvas to be an exploration of perspectives. She states on her website, “I wanted to see what it would look like to put black paint down on shadows [and] soon it evolved to painting all the colors as they existed in a 3D space on top of themselves. I realized that by painting in this style, I was able to seemingly collapse depth.”
Meade continues, “My paintings are a like a reverse Trompe-L’Oeil. Unlike a traditional Trompe-L'Oeil painting which tricks the eye into thinking a 2D canvas might be a real 3D space, I do the opposite: I take the 3D world and create the illusion that it is a 2D painting.”
Meade has an interesting story as to how she became an artist, she began her professional journey working in politics where she learned the acrobatics of public relations and the importance of “spin ” before shifting to art.
Meade has honed her inventive canvas use into a series of paintings and showcases. She explains her process in the video below:
