Li Hongbo: Statues in Motion from Todd Martin on Vimeo. In what might be the most inspired paper-folding since Sadako and The Thousand Paper Cranes, Beijing-based master sculptor Li Hongbo unveils Statues in Motion, a video piece that documents the artist's jaw-dropping work with accordion-style paper cutouts. In collaboration with Klein Sun Gallery, which previously showcased the stretchable sculptures, Hongbo offers a refreshing take on the classic porcelain bust by meticulously recreating selected masterpieces out of thousands of layers of paper. While we've seen the work as amazing GIFs, the video format takes things to the next level. The resulting work is as breathtaking as it is, shall we say, expansive?Hongbo's exhibition, Tools of Study, is on view at Klein Sun Gallery in NYC, through March 2.
