Relive Your School Crush Memories to Lil Yachty’s “Chained to the Rhythm” Boat Remix

Key lyric: "I LOVE YOU KATYYYYY"

When you first heard Katy Perry's "Chained to the Rhythm" – a "woke" "anthem" for "millennials" featuring Skip Marley that sees Katy getting her first year-university-student-who-just-learned-about-structural-inequality on and talking about how we're like, "wasted zom-BIE[s]" who are slaves to the system, man – did you think, 'you know what, this isn't quite nautical enough?' I know I did.

Thankfully, Lil Boat himself is here to save the track, and all of us, lest we should long for the jaunt of the high seas upon hearing it. In typical Yachty style, his verses are auto-tuned love-ins. At one point he just yells "I LOVE YOU KATY!!" in what is definitely the best part of the song, and his other verses drip with high school teen-dom – "put my hand on ya ass so they know that you with me" – delivered in his weirdly irresistible cadence.

Yachty isn't the first artist to remix "Chained to the Rhythm" – Hot Chip also gave it a go, turning it into a clubby, bass heavy banger – so even if nothing else, the song seems make good fodder for other artists to put their own stamp on. It just so happens that Yachty's stamp is "being super cute and sorta just shouting on the track," and personally I'm into it. Have a listen below:
