Artists from all over the world pay homage to the Jakobsplan student residence hall in Weimar, Germany. Started in April 2014 by artists Ina Weise (Germany), Danielle Kourtesis (USA), and Nima Keshtkar (Tehran), the Fabulous Jakobsplan project began with the intention of making information about the building more public.
Located in the suburb of Jacob, the “most notorious building” in one of the oldest parts of Weimar has developed an reputation since its construction, after it forced the demolition of three historic buildings in the area, including the Weimar Thuringian court. The 164′ tall building is the only skyscraper in Weimar’s densely historic metropolis, sticking out like a sore thumb in the cityscape of German Classicism.

Fabulous Jakobsplan compiles works by over a dozen international creators, each exploring and confront the “hard lines and soft curves of Weimar’s most notorious building.” Whether you see Jakobsplan as a radiant oasis or a civic eyesore, the show’s organizers have assured us that from August 22nd to September 6th the building will stand as a site of ‘artistic whimsy,’” an opportunity to explore the building’s “potential for majesty.”
The show’s opening night will feature a live performance from recording artist JoJo Abot, and the last week the show is on display, the feminist art collective hannsjana will be providing and executing performative audio tours from 5 to 7 PM.
