Inside Manila's Little People Fighting Scene

For the 23 million Filipinos living below the poverty line, economic opportunities are extremely difficult to come by. If you happen to be one of the Philippines' large number of little people, things are even tougher.

For the 23 million Filipinos living below the poverty line, economic opportunities are extremely difficult to come by. Not surprisingly, if you happen to be one of the Philippines' large number of little people (in other words, less than 4'10" in height as an adult), things are even tougher. However, the problem isn't necessarily a lack of jobs. It's more that a lot of the available jobs—such as oil wrestling other little people in a strip club full of drunken tourists—are exploitative as hell.

We met up with some small-statured entertainers working in Makati City, Manila's red light district. As it turned out, they have a lot to be angry about. Unfortunately, the only time they get to release any of that anger, it's against each other.
