The highest court in Alabama has voted 7-1 in favor of defying the federal pressure to issue marriage licenses to gay and lesbians in the state, reports Yahoo News. The state's Supreme Court asked for judges to speak up over the next five days if they disagree with the ruling, but vocal opposition may not help the judges's future reelection campaigns in the conservative state. Next month, the United States Supreme Court will make a final ruling about whether gay marriage should be legal nationwide, regardless of state bans.
