A RUSSIAN JET CRASHED IN EGYPT, KILLING ALL 224 PEOPLE ON BOARD

A Russian passenger jet crashed in Egypt on Saturday morning, killing all 224 passengers and crew on board.

The Airbus A321, operated by Russian airline Kogalymavia under the name Metrojet, was travelling from Sharm el-Sheikh to St Petersburg when it came down in a mountainous region in the Sinai peninsula.

An insurgent group in Egypt linked to Islamic State claimed they had shot down the plane "in response to Russian airstrikes that killed hundreds of Muslims on Syrian land".

Although militants close to Islamic State do operate in Sinai – they have killed hundreds of Egyptian soldiers and police in recent months – they are not believed to have missiles capable of hitting a jet at 30,000 feet.

The Russian airline Metrojet grounded its A321 fleet over safety concerns on Sunday while Russia's Transport Minister Maxim Sokolov said the claim that the plane was brought down by terrorists "can't be considered accurate".

Eleven refugees, including four babies, two children and four women, drowned in the Aegean sea on Sunday morning after the boat they were in capsized in rough seas.

The refugees were on course to land on the Greek island of Samos when their six-metre-long boat capsized and ten people were left trapped inside the vessel's cabin.

The Greek coastguard rescued 15 other people who were in the sea.

Dozens have drowned in the seas between Turkey and the Greek islands in recent weeks as higher winds and lower temperatures have set in.

AL-SHABAAB KILLED 15 PEOPLE IN AN ATTACK ON A MOGADISHU HOTEL

Islamist militant group Al-Shabaab attacked a hotel in Mogadishu this weekend, killing 15 people, including a Somali Al S and a Somali army general who'd led a 2011 offensive forcing Al-Shabaab out of the city.

The gunmen from the group blew their way into the hotel, which is popular with Somali politicians, using two car bombs, and then went on a shooting spree.

The attack comes a day after African Union and Somali troops engaged fighters from the Islamist group in deadly clashes near the border with Ethiopia.

The vote looks likely to give President Tayyip Erdogan a majority government

Turkey voted in a general election on Sunday that, on early polls, looks likely to give the ruling AKP party, headed by President Tayyip Erdogan, a clear majority in the parliament.

The vote, the second in five months, was presented by the president as a chance for Turks to restore stability following months of fighting between Kurds and the Turkish army and two deadly bombings that killed over a hundred people.

The pro-Kurdish HDP was expected to poll less votes than expected, with one senior member of the party telling the BBC the results looked "disappointing".

Clashes in the mainly Kurdish city of Diyarbakir were reported as the results were being counted, with police reportedly firing tear gas at protesters.

A Halloween rave in Lambeth, south London, got aggy on Saturday night after riot police tried for six hours to shut it down.

Police officers wielding batons were on the scene in Lambeth from midnight to 6AM trying to disperse the crowd, but the ravers responded by throwing chairs, bottles and, reportedly, a petrol bomb at the police.

The party, dubbed "Scumoween", has been held on Halloween for several years; in 2010, thousands of ravers took over an abandoned Royal Mail building on Oxford Street for 18 hours.

Police said four officers were treated for injuries, while attendees of the rave accused police of "bashing people senseless".
