This Week on Best of VICE Canada: BC is Burning and Cloning the Woolly Mammoth

Tune in Sunday at 10 PM on City.

Still from Cloning the Woolly Mammoth.

This week's Best of VICE Canada, airing Sunday night, investigates the 2015 wildfire season in BC and travels to Russia and South Korea to meet people fixated on resurrecting the Woolly Mammoth.

Soaring temperatures and drought last summer led to intense wildfires in BC, with 5,208 new ones being reported every day. VICE went to BC to learn how the ecosystem there, including everything from air quality to caribou and salmon populations, were impacted by the fires.

Resurrecting the prehistoric woolly mammoth is serious business in South Korea, where scientists are using cloning technology and a preserved specimen to attempt to bring the beast back to life. They are hoping the specimen, taken from the leg of a 40,000-year-old frozen mammoth, contains an active cell which can be used to bring it back to life. Tusk hunting Siberians support the cloning efforts by seeking out frozen mammoths in Russia's Far North.
