When we left Australia for our party in New Zealand last Friday night, our planned itinerary went something like this: party on Friday night, leave hotel before check-out on Saturday and drive three hours to the Bay of Islands (the most spectacular place on earth) to our friend's holiday house, where we'd go fishing, swim in the natural springs and play Uno in front of the fire for hours on end. As it happened, we ended up at a big house in the suburbs with bizarre themed rooms after the party, missed our check out three days in a row and spent most of the time, as we always seem to there, walking up and down K road trying to find Mermaids (a strip club where girls swim naked in a giant fish tank).K road is the affectionate nickname given to Karangahape Rd — the main street in Auckland where there seems to be an inordinate number of op-shops, sex stores and Japanese restaurants. If you ever visit, this is where you'll spend most of your time.We took a copy of Scribe's song "Not Many" with us and played it over and over again everywhere we went. This was hilarious and we successfully managed to piss most of the Kiwis off in the process but the unexpected side effect was that we all love the song now. It's weird. Listen to it here. All the bands and DJs at the party — The Midnight Juggernaughts, Tony from the Avalanches, one-man wonder Phelps and Munro, Dustin Diamante and State Radio were amazing (or, as the Kiwis would say, "choice bro") and had Dancing Stevie doing his thing for hours.
