THE DEATH SET IN "THE ADVENTURES OF QUANNI CANNONZ"

The Death Set are a punk band who formed in Australia and currently live in Brooklyn. They're not street punk, crustpunk, or garage punk. They're the kind of punk where an iPod is employed at points and hyper video game music is coupled with screaming and guitars. Imagine you're playing Street Fighter and then all the characters lunge at you and free themselves from the arcade cabinet and they have musical instruments.

Johnny Siera is their singer, and he just sent me a link to a movie they made called The Adventures of Quanni Cannonz. Here's what he had to say about what this thing is.

The Adventures of Quanni Cannonz is a retarded tour documentary detailing our tour with Girl Talk in 2008. Add two Australians, a Panamanian American, French American, Columbian American and your typical mohawked American into a van bought for $100. Then going on tour around the US and Canada getting punished by Mid West cops, grandmas almost dying in the front row of cafe shop gigs coupled with the ridiculousness of playing to huge Girl Talk frat crowds.

The title of the movie comes from the name of the van we traveled in. It came with graffiti tagged on the side "Quanni Cannonz". We're not sure what it means? We kinda thought it was some gang round the area we were living in Philly at the time. Perhaps it meant like "I got gunz"???? Fuck I don't know. But essentially we bought it for $100 and the motherfucker made it round the US and Canada with about a million problems, but it made it.

We asked Johnny why it took him two years and change to edit together a 20-minute tour doc and he said, "First off, the director Dan Santigo was on Martian time and also drove on the tour, so it took a few light years to even fucking get him to start. I think he was semi distraught from the whole experience perhaps. So, after many bribes and threats he eventually came to our house and I simply didn't let him leave till he finished it."

And that's a that.
