A Posthumous Tribute to a Posthumous Tribute... Live!

"It was a dead lady singing about a dead ladyman. Very meta!"

Our lady of DayGlo outfits and trash bag dresses and orthodontic braces and yell-singing to the point of tremors about stuff that was punk in the 70s (a voice that launched 6,000 riot grrrls) wrote a song in posthumous tribute to Michael Jackson. And now there’s a video for it (that's it, up there). Yes, this is Poly Styrene, and says Lauryn Siegel, who directed the video for “Ghoulish” after Poly passed away from breast cancer in April: “It was a dead lady singing about a dead ladyman. Very meta!”

The video’s official live-in-person release is tonight at Von in NYC, and Molly from Bratmobile and Kerry from Red Aunts are DJing, and you can expect a whole host of awesome freaks (it's co-hosted by the lady who played the character of J.T. Leroy, for instance), some of whom you see impersonating or judging impersonations of Michael Jackson in the video.

A couple things to know about what's on display:

+ Note the Gaby Hoffmann cameo? Seigel had been on an email chain with her because mutual friends were having a baby and they’d all gone in on a breast pump together. Then she figured, hey, why not ask Gaby Hoffmann to make an appearance?

+ The only one of the bunch who does a decent MJ impersonation, J. Moses Harper, just won amateur night at the Apollo!
