My major takeaway from the new Beach House track “Lemon Glow” is that it made me feel extremely relaxed, but also compelled to check that something wasn’t sneaking up behind me. A little more foreboding than we’re used to from the beloved dream-pop pair, “Lemon Glow” has a hint of the sinister about it, and that makes for a great new twist on their sound.
That’s not to say that the usual Beach House markers aren’t around (even the track name “Lemon Glow” is Extremely Beach House): their overwhelming sense of stillness remains present, as Victoria Legrand’s voice glides through layers of synth, which feel just a little more opaque this time around. The song, happily, is the first from a brand new, as yet-untitled album “due later this Spring,” according to a new Instagram post from the band, which you can see below. All of which is to say: three cheers for a summer of falling asleep in the sun and looking out of windows with a feeling of ennui, all to a soundtrack of brand new Beach House. Hear “Lemon Glow” above. Maybe take a lie down.
