Pics or It Didn't Happen: Dekmantel Festival, Amsterdam

Inside the little techno festival that could.

I don't know what to think about the Netherlands. On one hand, they are producing the worst reality TV shows conceivable, their capital is inundated by gross tourists looking for legal weed, and worst of all, they put that terrible orange color on everything, from their national soccer team to the stuff they call "cheese" that doesn't even deserve that name.

On the other hand, the bike is their primary means of transportation, same sex mariage has been legal for 12 years, and they are one of the top 10 richest nations in the world. And I gotta admit, the city's giving Detroit a run for its money in the world of techno festivals. Dekmantel's programming didn't seem to have a single hiccup, while Movement in Detroit had a bummer stage open to glossy EDM stars.

That being said, Dutch and Detroiters look equally stupid wearing their plastic raincoats at the rave, which makes me think there is still some justice in this world.
