The app stores are teeming with new releases, but who has time to go through them all? We do. Bringing you a selection of the most interesting, creative, and innovative apps each week. Submit your suggestions for next week in the comments below.Pocket Hipster [iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad]
Last week we brought you a music app that lets you know when your favorite musicians release new material. Well, that’s nothing compared to this. A collaboration (supposedly the first of many) from We Are Hunted and The Echo Nest, it’s an app that puts two sneering hipsters in your pocket who mock you, your beloved tunes, and that mountain bike you rode in on. Then they suggest alternatives.Paranormal Activity: Sanctuary [iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad]A muti-player augmented reality game which uses real locations as you battle against the supernatural. If ghost busting is your thing then you’ll no doubt enjoy this. The trailer’s a bit heavy-handed if you’re above 12 years old, but if you’re a gamer it could be a good excuse to get up off the couch and go outside in the sunshine…while still being able to play games, of course.Adult Swim [iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad]
If you’re a fan of the series, now you can stream entire episodes of shows like Robot Chicken, Venture Bros., or Tim and Eric Awesome Show Great Job! while waiting around for friends, commuting to work, or sitting in the bath. And it’s free.WWW [iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad]
This app from Kazuyuki Okamoto turns your device into a musical instrument, using the touchscreen and tilt sensor to bounce around wavy lines that create sounds. When it starts, three strings appear that you can pluck or strum like a guitar. But using the “+” sign in the corner, you can play around with different variables allowing you to progress and continue to create strange noises with this abstract sound toy.Chordbot Pro [Android]
Everyone knows that all you really need to create great songs is just three simple chords (hey, it worked for punk rock), so here’s an app where you can play chords on your phone, creating songs by adding chords to the chord list. You can use it as an experimental song writing tool or as accompaniment to existing instruments or, more likely, as a fun way to kill some time. It has 60 chord types, 20 odd comping styles, live editing and you can export whatever you create into MIDI/WAV file format.
