Coming off MVP honors in last year's All-Star Game, Mike Trout continued his Midsummer Classic domination with a leadoff home run to get things started in Cincinnati. Trout—who is now 5-8 in All-Star Games—found himself in a 1-2 hole to National League starter, Zack Greinke, but was able to muscle a 94 mph fastball the opposite way and just cleared the fence out in right field.
As Joe Buck noted in the broadcast, this was the first leadoff home run in an All-Star Game since Bo Jackson did it in 1989.
The next batter, Josh Donaldson, worked a walk, but the rest of the American League lineup went down in order.
