In August 2009, Courtney Upshaw was arrested, along with his then-girlfriend Kendall Grzyb, after a domestic violence dispute in Tuscaloosa County, AL. According to the police report, on August 19, 2009, a campus police officer on routine patrol saw Upshaw chasing Grzyb, who appeared to be yelling at him, in the parking lot of the Student Recreation Center at the University of Alabama, where Upshaw was a student at the time. Upshaw then "grabbed Grzyb by the back of the neck and hair with his right hand, and pushed her downward in what appeared to be an attempt to push her to the ground."Upshaw told the police that the altercation began when Grzyb "slapped him…in reference to her having seen him talking to another woman." In the police report, Upshaw admitted to grabbing and pushing Grzyb. Grzyb said that she slapped Upshaw and walked away, and Upshaw began to chase her. Upshaw and Grzyb were both arrested and charged with third-degree domestic violence. In October 2009, a judge agreed to drop the charges against both Upshaw and Grzyb and expunge them from their records on the condition that they take anger-management classes.Upshaw did not return Broadly's request for comment.
