Zac Efron Is a Bonafide Bad Boy

Find out which other teen dreamboats turned nasty.

Our friends at Grolsch Film Works have a website where you can find out what they’ve been up to and read/watch interesting stuff about films. Every week we'll be plucking the highlights. This is that.

WHEN TEEN HEARTTHROBS GO SERIOUS

These are heady times for our generation’s erstwhile teen heartthrobs. In Lee Daniels’ sweaty hodgepodge The Paperboy (out now), one-time High School Musical poppet Zac Efron well and truly graduates to big school, spending the majority of the film half-naked, and even getting urinated on by Nicole Kidman for his troubles. Meanwhile, Efron’s former HSM co-star Vanessa Hudgens gets up to all sorts of X-rated, parent-terrifying activities in the upcoming Spring Breakers, the latest cinematic provocation from indie cinema’s irrepressible bad boy Harmony Korine. To celebrate such bad behaviour from these formerly clean-cut sweethearts, we’ve picked out our top 10 instances of teen heartthrobs going to the dark side.

SXSW 2013: THE WINNERS

So, now SXSW is over we can all get our pens out and jot down the names of the winners, just so we know exactly what/who to look out for over the next couple of years. But then, there I was, watching Mr. Laidback Always-Shirtless Dude torturing women with fried chicken in Killer Joe, feeling like I'd been punched in the face with disbelief. And now, with The Paperboy (out now) and Mud on the horizon, McConaughey has cemented his position as having achieved one of the greatest career turnarounds since these guys…

MOVIE POSTERS OF THE MONTH

As you're probably all aware, there are plenty of ugly-looking movie posters plastered all over town right now (like this one, for example), but don't despair just yet. We've managed to dig up a select few that prove the art of making a film look as alluring as possible in one single image is still alive.

You can totally feel the summer vibes in this one, with the NYC skyline, re-imagined as spray cans hanging over the two young leads (graffiti artists, as it happens). The poster is almost as sun-drenched and warm-hearted as the film itself, which is a complete gem, FYI. More to the point, how sick would this look on your wall, above your bed? The answer is… very sick.
