A FIST IN THE FACE OF GOD - GHOUL CULT

After the treacherous journey back from a month in the Brazilian realm of deathrash, we return to the sounds of northern Europe's unholy zombie-fixated Ghoul-Cult.

Ghoul-Cult are a Norwegian black/death/thrash unit obsessed with zombies, horror movies, and a thirst for the blood of priests. Formed in 2001, they recorded two demos before releasing their self-titled full-length in 2004, their last release thus far. This is one of the best records I've heard from this millennium, without question. Vocalist and battery provider Johnny Tombthrasher has now enlisted the grinding chainsaw riffs of the most unholy of all, Deathhammer's Sergeant Salsten, for their next release and their live shows. If it is anywhere near as feral as this I can hardly wait for their debut. Since we're currently running the Conversations With Distinguished Gentlemen Issue I thought I'd try to tie this in somehow with my weekly blog. The best way I can think of is to play each week's track to an actual gentleman and get his opinion. I emailed this track to a friend of mine who is in fact a true gentlemen. This is what he had to say.

Vice: Good afternoon. Could you kindly tell the readers your name and your profession?

Distinguished Gentleman: I'm Roger Milfred and I'm a historian.

So, did you listen to the track I sent you?

Yes, I don't know what to say, if I'm honest. It's quite noisy.

Yeah? What did you do while you listened to it?

Turned the volume down a little.

What did you think of the lyrical content?

I couldn't really understand it.

It's about zombies and shit.

It sounds a bit like he has a bad throat infection. He needs to breathe through his nose more, practice on his technique. Sing from the lungs, like a trained tenor.

So it's not really recommended for gentlemen then, eh?

Not very gentlemanly. I think there is a beautiful voice hiding under there, he just needs to let it out.

OK, thanks.
