To celebrate the sixth birthday of the The British Masters series (y’know, the one where we speak to, uh, masters of British music) we organised something special – British Masters Live. After Damon Albarn, Dizzee Rascal, Mark E. Smith and Viv Albertine, Suede’s Brett Anderson joined host John Doran to be inducted as a British Master. Except this time it took place in front of a live audience of hundreds of thousands / a couple of hundred, actually, at the Rio Cinema in east London. And now, thanks to technology, you can watch it too – albeit retrospectively rather than being transported back in time.

As host John Doran tells it: “Suede were one of the few mainstream bands of the 1990s to truly capture the youthful zeitgeist. Their songs lionised colourful characters, urban nightlife, heavy drug use and even heavier sex all over psychedelic glam rock. Suede are now back and as strong as ever; their new album The Blue Hour speaks of that rarest of things, a rock band having a genuine second wind.” Watch above.
