Eating at the movies is one of life’s great pleasures. But while we’d never knock the magic that is dipping your choc top into your popcorn — don’t knock it until you try it — the menu did kind of stall a few decades ago.

That’s why we’ve set out to bring movie snacks into 2018 with Munchies At The Movies a special VIP event at Sydney’s Palace Cinemas on 15 May at Central Park Mall. They’ve teamed up with three local food heroes across three cinemas. Each has chosen a film they love, and created a gourmet snack pack to match.

Palisa Anderson of Chat Thai and Boon Cafe will be screening The Rocket, and serving a Laos menu to match. Highlights will include sour and salty pork and fermented rice sausages, air dried pork jerky, fresh prawn chips and a sweet rice treat to finish.

Continental Deli’s Michael Nicolian is creating elevated survival fair to pair with Zombieland. Think cassoulet in a can and a tinned cocktail.

Finally Jake Smyth will take a break from Mary’s and The Lansdowne to watch Fear and Loathingin Las Vegas. Not surprisingly, his menu will kick off with a tequila shot, followed by prawn cocktail, hot dogs and the aforementioned ice cream and popcorn classic.

If that sounds good to you, which obviously it does, we have great news. You can win tickets to this delicious cinematic feed bag! Head here and maybe consider skipping lunch.
