42 years after man set foot on the moon, the future of our space program is struggling not to slip.

The Space Shuttle has its last foot out the door, the funding for the James Webb telescope (supposed Hubble replacer) has just been canned, and the Russian Soyuz Rocket is the only current replacement for NASA’s manned missions. If NASA is the largest space agency in the world, what are they doing these days? To prove they are still a significant player in space exploration they came up with the following promo that is about as inspiring as, well, see for yourself:

The Vlogbrothers tried to probe deeper by getting on the videophone with NASA:

Well, it appears as if deep space rocket tech is the next big step for NASA, though they didn’t discuss specific plans for vehicles or programs. With the Constellation Program, whose entire goal was to perform manned deep space explorations, being axed less a then a year ago by the Obama administration, this new vision of NASA’s future appears to have already been shutdown. A depressing thought, considering an organization that has, in the past, produced an average of 1,600 new technologies every year.
