Slowbody’s “Fkn’ Bullet” Will Make Your Eyebrows Do The Worm

This anonymous producer probably should have cross-checked Urban Dictionary before coining his moniker.

A piece of advice from Slowbody—always check Urban Dictionary before coining your next DJ project.

"After I picked the name, I discovered in Urban Dictionary that 'slow body' means the people in the streets who are walking in front of you, very slowly," explains the anonymous producer. "They don't let you go fast, they're a pain in the ass."

Ironically, with his energy-oozing beats and dance floor-ready remixes, Slowbody's music could get just about anybody up and moving. "I'm trying to keep a vibe, somewhere between chill music, but also like a bit of bad ass-ness," he says. "I love when the music I play makes my eyebrows frown. For me, the most important thing in any kind of music, of any genre, is when the beats come and your eyebrows are like, 'What's going on?'" Yet, when Slowbody isn't lowering the eyebrows of his fans and followers, he's raising them. He refuses to release his given name and allegedly resides in the fictitious world of Mario Van Peebles' "New Jack City."

"It's not easy for journalists," he laughs. "With Slowbody, I'm trying to focus everything on my music. I don't want people to know where I'm from, or what my background is. I'm trying out a brand new thing, a brand new project." Only a few months into his mysterious endeavour, Slowbody has already compiled an impressive collection of dark, but zesty, originals and remixes. The versatile catalogue, which ranges from Asher Roth's "That's Cute," to Shiba San's "Planet Floor," is intended for those late-night after parties with bloodshot eyes, swollen calves, and shattered morals.

"It's weird because I'm not so much of a party animal," he says. "I'm not really in the crowd for the after party, but I love to play at the end of the night. At the after party, it's always wild and you can play a bit rougher. [My music] definitely has the after-hours taste to it."

His new track, "Fkn' Bullet," exemplifies the nonstop commotion of a late night fiesta. With its bouncy, futuristic bass line, intricate play with drums, and a rap sample that could double as a slightly sinister children's tongue-twister, the four-minute sound experiment mimics the same enjoyable chaos of German electroclash guru DJ Hell, whom Slowbody cites as an inspiration.

"I'd say one of the people that influences me would be DJ Hell," he adds. "With all the press pics he's doing, he tries to mix his image with his sound, like this classy dark electroclash thing. There's all this fascination around him." Slowbody's own Facebook page includes both a nightmarish photo of a Cousin Itt-style hand, as well as an uninviting self-portrait that coldly separates Slowbody's head from his hand. It appears the identity-less producer is indeed on his way to branding himself as a pretty damn odd, but nonetheless captivating, musical act.

Although Slowbody may be aiming for those undeniably indulgent late-night vibes, the refreshing and enthusiastic sounds of "Fkn' Bullet," is sure to get eyebrows from all over the place moving in 4/4 time.
