Evertonians Sing Brilliant "Money Can't Buy You Stones" Beatles Knockoff

"Chelsea want those kind of things that money just can't buy."

Supporters of the Blues are enthralled about keeping their man John Stones—enough to write tomes and sing praises. (Particularly at the expense of Chelsea.) The latest iteration involves swapping out lyrics from "Can't Buy Me Love," in a catchy little ditty lovingly titled "Money Can't Buy You Stones." (See less stretched out version here.)

Cheekily directed toward Chelsea's failed attempt to seduce and capture Stones during the transfer window, the song lyrics go as such:

Martínez says he's not for sale,
And I am satisfied,
Chelsea want those kind of things that money just can't buy,
I don't care too much for money,
Money can't by you Stones

For Evertonians, Martínez's refusal to sell John Stones was a delightful reminder that Everton indeed has a backbone. After living a historied existence farming good players out to richer clubs, Everton has finally put their foot down. According to the Guardian, Manager Roberto Martínez said that Chelsea—who were pursuing the center back—can't simply "click your fingers and get anything you want." He also accused them of getting his player all "mixed up," leading him to file a transfer request. Martínez ensured that Stones had literally no agency in the situation.

Now Martínez's move will go down in the history books—hard to unhear that song.
