Brewers Start A Left-Handed Pitcher For First Time Since 2013. Yes, Really.

That's a very long time.

Time to play a game I'm calling Oddly Significant Photos In Baseball History. Yes, I just made it up.

Anyhow, this right here is Tom Gorzelanny. He's throwing a baseball and he's doing it on August 28th, 2013, against the Pittsburgh Pirates. I am not showing you this photo because Tom Gorzelanny did anything inspiring on the mound that day; he let in four earned runs in 5 1/3 milquetoast innings.

But this photo matters, ish, because it is documented proof of the last time the Milwaukee Brewers started a left-handed pitcher… until today. That's correct: according to Gemma Kaneko of Cut4, today's game is the first in nearly three years that the Brewers have begun the game with a lefty on the hill. 26-year-old MLB debutante Brent Suter - no, we don't have a photo; yes, I'm aware this bit would work way better if there was one of him - has the honor of the breaking 474-game streak. Amazingly, there is one longer stretch between left-handed starters; the Dodgers exclusively started righties for 681 games, from September 24, 1992 to July 13, 1997.

How many right-handed pitchers have started between Gorzelanny and Suter? Trusty Stats Man Eric Nusbaum tells me "at least 16." So, there.
