Raptors' All-Star Guard Kyle Lowry Reportedly Accepts Invitation to Play for Team USA at Olympics

Lowry will head to his first Olympics after coming off a career year in which he led the Raptors to the Eastern Conference finals.

Toronto Raptors point guard Kyle Lowry will represent the United States at the Rio Olympics this summer, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical.

A spot opened up for Lowry after point guards Stephen Curry, Chris Paul and Russell Westbrook all passed on the opportunity. Portland Trail Blazers point guard Damian Lillard has reportedly declined an invitation, as well.

Lowry will be the third Raptor to represent the United States at the Olympics— Vince Carter and Chris Bosh previously did—and could join teammate DeMar DeRozan in Rio, one of the USA camp invitees.

Additionally, Lowry could go head-to-head against fellow Raptors point guard Cory Joseph if the Canadian team manages to qualify for the Olympics.

The final USA roster is expected to be announced Monday. In addition to Lowry, Kevin Durant, Paul George, Draymond Green, DeMarcus Cousins, Jimmy Butler and Carmelo Anthony are among those who have reportedly committed to the team.

Lowry, who made his second consecutive All-Star team, averaged a career-high 21.2 points during the regular season, leading Toronto to its first Eastern Conference finals appearance in franchise history. The Raptors fell 4-2 in the best-of-seven series to the eventual NBA-champion Cavaliers.
