Hyped: The Week In Links 11/25

Busy week? Here’s some things you may have missed.

On the blog this week an office-bound toy escapes the drudgery of its existence in a Google Street View animation. We also enjoyed Stick Monster Lab‘s latest animation, looked at the new voice-controlled hacking phenomenon using Apple’s Siri, spoke with avant-garde claymator Allison Schulnik, and welcomed Chilly Gonzales into the Creators fold.

· Don’t think you’ll be able to hand that essay in on time? Need an excuse to not go into work? Then pretend you’ve come down with a bad case of Space Rabies, or any one of these fictional diseases that Wikipedia’s helpfully catalogued from novels, TV, films, and video games. [via]

· Tech-art trend of the week: Google Street View. There was a heartfelt stop-motion tale about a toy (see above) that used Street View images, artist Aaron Hobson fashioned beautiful landscape photographs from the mapping service, and Mercedes-Benz made an interactive sci-fi short Escape the Map using the application.

· Terminator-style contact lenses could be on the cards as engineers at University of Washington build a contact lens that has a single pixel embedded LED that picks up signals through an antenna. In other Arnie news, the best DVD commentary ever features Arnie totalling recalling the film Total Recall as it’s happening right there on the screen.
